A group of like-minded local artists decided to form an art club
and exhibit some of their art. They founded the Trigg Art Club in 1969 from
Lola McCue and husband Tom's home in Haysom Street, Trigg. Lola's
husband Tom McCue was the clubs first President. The Trigg Art Club Inc. was
the first art club to be formed north of the Swan River in Perth. Lola and Tom had four children involved with the Trigg Island Surf
Life Saving Club. Other surf club members also had children in the TISLSC. It
was decided to hold an Art Exhibition and use any profits to help support the
surf club.
The first art exhibition was held in the Old Surf Club Hall. From
these humble beginnings with just ten members the club has grown to around 100
members. Over the last 50 years exhibiting local art to raise money for the
Surf Club has always been the clubs main objective. Many thousands of dollars
have been handed to the surf club over the 50 years and the art club is happy
to call the surf club home.
